A cationic polyelectrolyte supplier comparison should connect the sample that passed the sludge test to the grade, lot, analytical methods, packaging and quotation that will be purchased. A nominal charge or viscosity value cannot replace that chain.

Identify the exact material

Record supplier, grade code, product form, sample lot, date and quantity. Keep the label, COA, TDS and SDS with the trial. Do not compare an anonymous sample with a commercial specification.

Confirm whether the proposed shipment is the same grade and whether release properties are measured per lot or shown only as typical values.

Read methods behind the data

Ask how active content or moisture, cationicity, charge density, solution viscosity, particle range and dissolution are measured. Note concentration, water, temperature and instrument. Method differences can create numbers that look comparable but are not.

Avoid specifications that turn one analytical value into a performance guarantee.

Repeat the application test

Prepare candidates with equal active concentration, water, maturation and age. Compare active dose on the same fresh sludge and fixed equipment conditions. Measure capture, filtrate or centrate, cake solids, throughput and operational stability.

Retain the approved sample and define an incoming check for later lots.

Compare delivered treatment cost

Include active consumption, freight, duty, storage, make-down water, throughput, recycle load, cake transport and operator time. A lower price per kilogram may cost more if dose is higher or the operating window is narrow.

Confirm bag and liner, pallet, container quantity, Incoterm, destination, lead time and documents before award.

Send a decision-ready request

Provide sludge source and solids, equipment, current grade and active dose, measured target, monthly quantity and destination. Use the quality and supply record to keep technical and commercial details together.

Set acceptance limits before testing

For a supplier qualification, define the feed range, baseline treatment and decision before polymer is added. State which sample represents normal operation and which represents the difficult condition. A candidate cannot be ranked fairly if sludge composition or machine settings change during the comparison.

Use a measurable endpoint: repeatable preparation, dewatering performance, document consistency, packaging and delivered cost. Record the method, sampling delay and instrument condition. Include a practical constraint such as throughput, torque, pressure, wash water, cycle time or downstream recycle load.

Bracket expected feed variation

Build at least two cases around approved sample lot, proposed shipment lot, normal sludge and difficult sludge. Run the same adjacent grades and active-dose steps on both. A broad controllable response is usually more useful than a narrow optimum on one easy sample.

Keep make-down water, concentration, wetting, maturation, solution age, dilution and mixing identical. If one condition must change, use a bridge comparison to separate the preparation effect from the sludge effect.

Read the full response curve

Plot blank, current product and candidate results against active dose per dry solids. Mark the first useful response, stable middle range and point where more addition stops helping or reverses performance. Repeat important middle and high points.

When specification values match but the shipment response differs from the retained sample, stop changing several variables together. Check sample integrity, upstream chemistry, stock solution, dose calculation, distribution and shear before moving to a different grade.

Carry the result into the machine

For scale-up, compare retained and new lots blind on the same sludge before reviewing manufacturing and logistics. Wait for the full equipment and recycle residence after each change. Collect matched feed, liquid and cake samples and preserve the machine settings with the result.

Convert pump or feeder settings back to active product use and reconcile with inventory during a stable period. Differences can expose calibration, tank turnover, dilution or recirculation errors.

Close the technical and purchasing record

Retain product code, lot, preparation sheet, dose curve, photographs, readings and full-scale result. Define the feed range and change condition that requires retesting so the approved sample remains connected to the material later received.
